Costa Rica Construction Trip -

Day 11 — (January 21, 2009)

We’re home. But without a doubt, travel days are rough. We loaded up in a bus and traveled through Costa Rica into the mountains reaching peaks close to 11,000 feet. Then back down to the Capital City of San Jose, just in time to pay our departure fee, check our bags, go through security, and load up on the plane to Atlanta. In Atlanta, we went through Immigration, found our bags, went through customs, and re-checked our bags onto a domestic flight to Orlando. After a quick American meal in the airport, we found our gate, hopped on the next plane for the one hour flight to Orlando. We grabbed our bags and found our bus for the ride back to the church. We left Dominical at 8:00am and reached Beachside at 1:30am, with a 1 hour time change.

With all of that time to sit on a bus, plane, or airport, you start to think about what actually happened over the past 11 days. Reality starts to set in. What was accomplished? What did God do with these 18 guys from Florida? What will he be able to do in the lives of people we met in Costa? Who was really blessed on this trip? The experiences and challenges that all of us encountered over the past few weeks, will not allow us to remain the same. Then you start to think what you could do in a town like Ormond Beach if you put the same effort out there. What would our town look like with a little elbow grease? What could God do here, if we let Him? If you would like to know, ask any of us. We’d be happy to share.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement as ALL of us have gone on this mission. We accomplished this mission. Now, let’s start praying for our next one.

Day 10 — (January 20, 2009)

Our project is officially done. We have completed everything that we set out to do with God’s help. The school roof looks great; as does the entire house. The electrical is set better than most have here in this town. And we threw in a few other projects too. We added a new roof system for the lifeguard stand at the north end of the beach and we built an entire new lifeguard stand at the south end of the beach. We put up 6 ceiling fans for Mike (our local pastor) and even found some time to relax on the beach for a Dominical Sunset and Tortilla Flats for some fish at the end of the night. Then we all turned in and got some rest for the long travel day tomorrow. We are ready to be home with our families for sure.

Our devotion today was: Invest (Nehemiah 11, Ephesians 4, Romans 15:1-16)

Day 8 & 9 — (January 18 & 19, 2009)

Sunday was a fantastic day here in Costa Rica. Our team split up into two teams. One group of 5 went down to Payton’s church in Uvida. It was very inspiring and good to spend more time with him and his wife, along with many others that some of us knew from the last trip. The other group had church on the beach with Mike and the church here in Dominical. It was very good. A few of our guys showed up with surf boards in hand. The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing and enjoying the football games anywhere we could find a tv that didn’t have soccer on it.
Today we are wrapping up our project and starting a few others. The block is totally done on the house. The roof is done on the school. And all of the preparations have been made to complete the roof on the house in the morning. God continues to provide people who want to help. This is very encouraging. People just show up ready to work.
God is growing our men. They would be comfortable with me sharing that we are all experiencing something here that they could have only dreamed of. It will good to see what God continues to do in their lives.
Our devotions the past two days have been: Recruit (Nehemiah 10, Mark 3:33-35, Psalms 1)

Day 6 & 7 — (January 16 & 17, 2009)

Friday and Saturday have been two extreme opposites. Friday we worked harder than we have the whole week. The house walls are just about done and the roof on the school looks great. We are right on track to accomplishing our task. Today, we played harder than we have the whole week. Groups of our guys did all sorts of things. One group drove south and visited a few different beaches. Another group went out into the rainforest and chopped down 4 trees and floated it down a river to a truck for an additional project that we will do before we leave. Another group stayed behind and decided that they wanted to work a bit more on our main project. The conversations amongst the guys down here has been a great thing to see going on. Our Bible studies have been very fruitful. I am confident that we are living out a different way to experience God’s blessing each day of our life. Perhaps this is the greatest blessing of all. Thank you for your prayers as we continue on for His name.

Our devotions the past two days have been: Challenge (Nehemiah 6, Matthew 13:18-23, Luke 12:47-48  ) & Adjust (Nehemiah 7-8, James 1:2-8, 1 Timothy 6:11-21).

Day 4 & 5 — (January 14 & 15, 2009)

These past two days have been nothing short of miraculous on the job site. From our shipments of materials arriving right on time to a group of kids showing up to cover 3 guys who took a trip to Jaco, God has been moving and speaking in the lives of everyone involved here. We have an amazing missionary on the ground here who has been a tremendous blessing. It is encouraging to see and be a part of what he will be doing after we leave later this week. Hopefully we have added to his momentum and he can make a greater impact because we have been here. Thank you for praying for this team. Our guys are seeing the affects of you talking with God on our behalf.

Our devotions the past two days have been: Engage (Nehemiah 4, Matthew 25:14-30, Romans 8:31) & Envision (Nehemiah 5, Matthew 4:1-11, Matthew 16:1-12).

Day 3 — (January 13, 2009)

We got an early start today at 5:30am. The two buildings are really coming along. And we keep finding things to add to the list. God is truly blessing us as we choose to bless others. We should be careful though, this blessing-others-concept could become a way of life. These guys are really working together well. They have gelled. God’s hand has been all over this as well. Great comradory.  Thank you for your continued prayers each day.

Our devotion today was: Focus (Nehemiah 3, John 15:1-17, Matthew 6:22-34) Feel free to follow along if you’d like.

Costa Rica Construction Trip -

Day 1 & 2 — (January 12, 2009)

We arrived at Dominical, Costa Rica Sunday at 11:00pm. Roughly 19 hours of travel: running through airports, bumpy airline landing in San Jose, a forever-long bus trip wrapped up by one intense off road experience. We find ourselves in paradise: birds woke us up at 5:30am, great breakfast served at 7:30am by a very gracious local missionary, beautiful waves. But we didn’t spend all of our time looking around, we got to it: digging footers, pouring cement, laying block, and welding the beginning of our big roof project. Great progress for our first day. More of these to come. Keep checking in, but more importantly, keep us in your prayers. Thanks for sending this team to Dominical.

Our devotions these two days were: Expectation (Nehemiah 1, Hebrews 11:8-10, 1 Corinthians 16:13) and Drive (Nehemiah 2, 1 John 1:5-9, James 1:22-25). Feel free to follow along if you’d like.
